    Job Description

    We are looking for a colleague who has some experience of working in an industrial chemicals laboratory to work within our highly innovative team in Alderley Edge. The Technologist will work as part of a team to support the development of Econic’s novel catalyst technology. To thrive in this role, you will need to be hands-on and able to work independently, adaptable to ideas and change, resourceful and self-motivated.

     

    Qualifications

    A Levels grades (A-C), including Chemistry is essential; other science subjects and mathematics are desirable. BSc in Chemistry is essential, MSc would be desirable. 

     

    Skills & Experience

    • Ability to plan experiments; drawing on input/advice and feedback from the team leader and wider team.
    • Capable of performing and understanding routine analysis methods such as NMR, IR, UV-Vis spectroscopy, Mass spectrometry.
    • Direct experience with catalysts and/or complex organic molecules is desirable.
    • Excellent numeracy and literacy, and computer literacy.
    • Proficiency in key MS Office programs (Excel, word) is desirable.
    • Ability to work independently with good problem-solving skills.

     

    Roles and Responsibilities

    • Maintain an excellent safety culture by timely reporting of all safety incidents and learning events.
    • Carrying out lab-based polymerisation reactions and running down-stream processing
      equipment to meet the business needs, including the use of high pressure equipment.
    • Execution of an experimental work plan, drawing on input from the rest of the team and other key stake holders.
    • Assisting to ensure procedures are developed and kept up to date.
    • Build strong, positive working relationships with team members.
    • Actively contribute to continuous improvement by developing ideas to improve personnel safety, environmental aspects and process improvement.
    • Documentation and reporting of developmental and experimental batches.
    • Manage stock levels of key consumables , maintain facilities and equipment for the team, in line with laboratory demand planning. Where appropriate training will be provided for routine maintenance.
    • Coordinating product sample shipments.
    • General facility housekeeping duties.

    Job Description

    This is an excellent 6-month internship opportunity for a Chemistry graduate to join an innovative company. The successful applicant can expect a daily routine which will consist of 75% Laboratory work and 25% planning, report writing, meetings and materials sourcing.
    The successful candidate will:
    • Develop Polyurethane formulations and prepare compelling samples, generating valuable technical data to help market Econic’s advantages.
    • Process the CO2-based polyols for use in polyurethane formulations.
    • Characterise the properties of the CO2-based polyols for applications of interest to Econic’s customers to be fed into the quality assurance programme.
    • Document and capture all project work and outcomes in a clear, organised and comprehensive manner.
    • Maintain in-house laboratory equipment.
    • Maintain stock levels of consumables and glassware within the labs.
    • Proactively seek to ensure a safe working environment and follow Econic’s safe working practices.

    Qualifications

    University graduate or postgraduate that have graduated with the last 3 calendar years, or an individual returning from a career break.

     

    Skills & Experience

    Experience of working in a laboratory environment.
    Excellent numeracy and literacy, and computer literacy.

    Job Description

    In order to support our Customer Demonstration Plant Manager, we are looking for an experienced Chemical Plant Operator to work within our dedicated plant team. The Chemical Plant Operator will work as part of a team to ensure the successful safe operation of Econic’s state of the art Customer Demonstration Facility, operating the Facility to showcase Econic’s novel catalyst technology. To thrive in this role, you will need to be hands-on and able to work independently, adaptable to ideas and change, resourceful and self-motivated

     

    Qualifications

    • GCSE A-C Grades (or equivalent) in English, Maths and Science subjects are essential;
    • A levels in Chemistry, Physics and Maths highly desirable (dependent on relevant experience)

     

    Skills & Experience

    • Proven track record of at least 5 years’ experience as an operator on a complex process plant is essential.
    • Direct experience of plant operating with catalysts is desirable
    • Control room experience, and experience in manual and automated plant operations.
    • Handling hazardous chemicals.
    • Excellent numeracy and literacy, and computer literacy.
    • Proficiency in key MS Office programs (Excel, word) is desirable.
    • Ability to work independently with good problem-solving skills.
    • Adaptability by switching from an operational mentality (focusing on optimisation of process parameters) to a developmental mentality (helping to develop new protocols).
    • Previous experience of working on a Top Tier COMAH site is desirable
    • Current drivers’ license
    • Please note that the job entails manual handling

    • Actively contribute to continuous improvement by developing ideas to improve personnel safety, environmental aspects and production efficiency.
    • Documentation and reporting of developmental and experimental batches
    • Taking process samples.
    • Ordering raw materials and reagents in line with facilities demand planning
    • Coordinating product shipments.
    • General facility housekeeping duties.
